MSU requires first-time freshmen to live on campus, so a full incoming class furnishes rooms from scratch every August. Its 18 halls sit in four neighborhoods. Whether you're in the Historic District at Critz, Herbert, Hull, McKee, or Sessums, in Zacharias Village at Griffis, Nunnelee, Hurst, or Ruby, in Victory Park at Deavenport or Dogwood, at South Point in Hathorn, Cresswell, Magnolia, Moseley, or Oak, or in Azalea Hall or College View, everything you need is already on campus. State students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail. Students living off campus around Starkville use it too. Same rule applies: verified students only, and the person on the other end is someone you'd pass on the way to class.
Meeting up on campus
Handoffs happen at landmarks everybody already knows. The Colvard Student Union, the Mitchell Memorial Library, and the Sanderson Center are all easy meeting points between classes. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no driving across Starkville to meet someone off Craigslist.
Textbooks without the bookstore markup
Course materials for engineering, agriculture, business, and the sciences run into the hundreds of dollars a semester, and the same editions circulate through campus year after year. The weeks that matter most
August move-in is staggered at State — upper-division Panhellenic students move into Hathorn and Cresswell on August 7, 2026, the Famous Maroon Band arrives August 9, and freshmen in Panhellenic recruitment move in August 12, with general freshman move-in around them. That spreads the rush over more than a week, which is good news if you're buying. May move-out is the other big window. If you're selling, post before the rush.
