College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Every account is verified with a @uwm.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Panthers — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

UWM's on-campus housing is compact and easy to learn. Most first-year students land in the North, South or West towers of Sandburg Hall, which houses more than half of UWM's residential students, or in the apartment-style suites of Cambridge Commons. RiverView Hall anchors the south campus with suite-style rooms overlooking the Milwaukee River. Sandburg's East Tower is reserved for returning and transfer students, and juniors, seniors, students 21 and older and graduate students can move into Kenilworth Square Apartments, a 1914 Model T plant on the East Side converted to full-kitchen apartments. First-time first-year students who are 20 or younger on September 1 are expected to live in university housing when space is available, so the buildings turn over hard every August and May and everything you need is already on campus. Milwaukee students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Check the rules before you buy, because UWM is stricter than most. Housing provides a height-adjustable, bunkable bed frame, an extra-long mattress, a desk, a chair and either a closet organizer or a small dresser, so buy twin XL sheets for the halls and full XL sheets for Kenilworth. Homemade and third-party lofts are not permitted at all — loft kits are rented through the housing portal by August 1 for fall move-in, so shop bed risers and storage instead. Personal minifridges are banned too; only nano-fridges roughly the size of six 12-ounce cans are allowed, and anything larger has to be a rented MicroFridge unit. Microwaves are out except in Cambridge standard suites, where they must be under 1000 watts, and toasters, sandwich makers, pizza ovens, space heaters and anything with an exposed heating element are prohibited. Cambridge Commons, RiverView and Sandburg's East Tower have individual climate control with air conditioning; the traditional Sandburg towers don't list it, which makes a good fan a real August purchase.

Meeting up is easy when the campus is this walkable. Trade in the open at the UWM Student Union, outside Golda Meir Library, by the Panther Shop in the Student Union, or at the front desk of the Klotsche Center & Pavilion. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
