Where Hurricanes buy and sell

Non-local first-year students are required to live on campus for two semesters, so a full class furnishes rooms from scratch every August. Whether you're in Centennial Village at Biscayne, Coral, Grove, Ibis, or Vista, in Eaton, Mahoney, or Pearson, or in apartment-style living at Lakeside Village or University Village, everything you need is already on campus. Miami students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, fans, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail. Students living off campus around Coral Gables and South Miami use it too. Same rule applies: verified students only, and the person on the other end is someone you'd pass on the way to class.

Campus housing is changing fast

Miami is in the middle of a multi-year housing rebuild. Centennial Village replaced the old Hecht and Stanford residential colleges with five new ones, and three more buildings replacing Stanford are scheduled to open for fall 2026. Planning is underway for a possible replacement or renovation of Mahoney, Pearson, and Eaton after that. Practically, that means unusually large groups of students moving into brand-new rooms and out of old ones — more furniture and dorm gear in motion than a normal year, and worth watching the feed closely in August.

Meeting up on campus

Handoffs happen at landmarks everybody already knows. The Shalala Student Center, the Otto G. Richter Library, and the Herbert Wellness Center sit close together in the middle of campus, so that's the natural default from almost any residential college. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no driving across Miami to meet someone off Craigslist.

Textbooks without the bookstore markup

Course materials for the sciences, business, engineering, and pre-health tracks run into the hundreds of dollars a semester, and the same editions circulate through campus year after year. Buying from the Hurricane who took the class last term beats the bookstore buyback spread on both ends — the seller gets more than the buyback price, and the buyer pays less than retail.
