College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania. Every account is verified with a @lakers.mercyhurst.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Lakers — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Mercyhurst requires every traditional undergraduate to live in university housing unless they're staying in Erie County with a parent or guardian, so almost the whole student body moves in each August. First-years land in Baldwin Hall, McAuley Hall or Warde Hall. Second-years shift into the suite-style Ryan Hall or the Duval Apartments, and upperclass students spread across the Briggs/Lewis Apartments, the Wayne Street Apartments, and the Warde Townhouses, 41st Street Townhouses and Lewis Avenue Townhouses; the two-person Mercy Apartments house the Autism Initiative at Mercyhurst living learning community. With that much movement every spring, everything you need is already on campus. Mercyhurst students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Buy for the building you actually got. Every residence except Baldwin Hall uses extra-long mattresses, so Baldwin residents want standard twin sheets and everyone else wants twin XL. Air conditioning is not universal either: Warde Hall has individually controlled A/C and heat, while Baldwin and McAuley have heat only, which is why box fans move fast in late August. It's the same split upstream — the 41st Street, Lewis and Warde townhouses and the Wayne apartments are air conditioned, the Briggs and Lewis apartments are not. Freshman rooms come with a bed, dresser, desk, desk chair, closet space and mini-blinds; a mini fridge or micro-fridge is allowed up to 3.2 cubic feet, full-size refrigerators are not, and microwaves stay out of the room because there's one in the main lobby of every floor. Warde beds can be bunked to open up floor space. Apartments and townhouses add a couch, a kitchen table with chairs, and a full-size refrigerator, stove and oven, so what sells there is kitchenware, seating and storage. Laundry is free, and pets stop at fish in tanks totaling 10 gallons or less.

Hand things off somewhere busy. The Herrmann Student Union and Grotto Commons are the obvious spots between classes, and Hammermill Library, the Mercyhurst Bookstore and the Student Fitness and Recreation Center all work in daylight with people around. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
