College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. Every account is verified with a @live.mercer.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Bears — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Mercer has a three-year housing requirement: freshmen, sophomores and juniors under 22 live on the Macon campus and carry a meal plan, so three classes' worth of Bears are within a few blocks of each other all year. Most first-year students land in Legacy Hall, the 300-bed building that opened in 2016, or in the three connected buildings of the Mary Erin Porter complex — Boone Hall, Dowell Hall and Porter Hall. Plunkett Hall, Sherwood Hall, Shorter Hall, Mercer Hall and Roberts Hall fill out the traditional and suite-style options, and students who want a kitchen move into the Garden Apartments or the Adams/Winship Apartments. With that many people housed inside a few walkable blocks, everything you need is already on campus. Mercer students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Check the rules before you buy furniture. Bed lofts are not permitted in any Mercer residential facility, but you can bunk your beds in every residence hall and bring standard bed risers — the lofting and electric kinds are banned, and so are cinder blocks. Residence Life also prohibits extension cords, wall mounts, toaster ovens, pressure cookers, halogen lights, lava lamps, electric heaters and personal wireless routers, though George Foreman-style grills are allowed in apartment and Greek house kitchens. Climate control varies by building, which is worth knowing before you buy a fan or a space blanket: Plunkett runs on a two-pipe system that puts the whole building in either heating or cooling mode, the Porter complex plus Sherwood and Shorter are on four-pipe systems that can do both at once, and Legacy, Mercer, Roberts and the apartments have thermostats you switch yourself.

When you've agreed on a price, meet somewhere public and busy. Tarver Library, Cruz Plaza, the Historic Quad, the University Center and Penfield Hall — home to the Fresh Food Company dining hall since the Connell Student Center came down in June 2026 — are all central, well-trafficked and easy to describe to someone you haven't met. Hand it over between classes: no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
