College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for The University of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee. Every account is verified with a @memphis.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Tigers — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
Most first-year Tigers land in the Living Learning Complex, the all-freshman hall on Patterson Street, or in Shirley C. Raines Centennial Place, with community-style Rawls Hall and Smith Hall and suite-style South Hall filling out the traditional side of campus. Upperclassmen, nursing students and athletes tend to move on to apartment living at the Carpenter Complex or Victory Park, and students based at the Lambuth campus in Jackson live in Carney-Johnston at Lambuth. Whichever building you land in, everything you need is already on campus. Memphis students post futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, rugs and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.
Rooms come furnished, and a few housing rules shape what's actually worth buying. Beds in the traditional halls, at Carpenter and at Carney-Johnston are extra-long twins, so shop Twin XL sheets; Victory Park is furnished with full-size beds instead. Every traditional room now includes an EcoMax 4.5 Multipliance fridge-and-microwave combo, and residents can't bring their own units, so don't buy one secondhand. Every building is air conditioned, and personal AC units, space heaters and ceiling fans are prohibited. Housing also does not permit residents to loft or bunk beds, which means skipping the loft kit and shopping for the under-bed clearance you actually have — roughly 2'6" at Centennial Place, 2'2" in Rawls and 1'11" in South Hall. Low-profile bins and rolling drawers move fast here for exactly that reason.
When it's time to hand something off, stay on campus and in daylight. The Maxine A. Smith University Center is the easy default with its dining floor and constant foot traffic, and McWherter Library, the R. Brad Martin Student Wellness Center and the Rose Theatre entrance all work just as well between classes. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
Timing matters too: fall 2026 move-in runs by building from August 17 through August 21, and those few days are when listings turn over fastest.
