College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Maryland. Every account is verified with a @umes.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Hawks — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

First-year Hawks land in the traditional halls — Court Plaza, Harford Hall, Murphy Complex, Plaza Hall, and Wicomico — or in the suite-style University Terrace and Student Apartments. Once you have a year behind you, room selection opens up the apartment-style communities: the Clusters, Hawk Run, Hawk Plaza, and Hawk's Landing. All first-year freshmen and transfer students are required to live on campus, which means every August a new class arrives needing the same dozen things at once, and every May another class leaves trying to get rid of them. That's the whole reason this works: everything you need is already on campus. UMES students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Your room already comes with a bed, mattress, dresser, desk, and chair, and the university provides heat and air conditioning, so what you're actually shopping for is the layer on top: bedding, a rug, a lamp, something to sit on that isn't the bed. Check the housing contract before you buy an appliance. Refrigerators have to be 4.3 cubic feet or smaller and microwaves are permitted, but a long list of heat-generating appliances is not — toaster ovens, hot plates, air fryers, George Foreman grills, and electric heaters are all prohibited. Buying a used fridge from somebody already living in Hawk Plaza is the easy way to know it fits the rule.

Meet up somewhere public and busy. The Student Development Center and the Student Services Center stay crowded through the middle of the day, the Frederick Douglass Library is an easy landmark for anyone still learning campus, and the William P. Hytche Athletic Center and the Ella Fitzgerald Performing Arts Center work well when you're handing off something bulky and want to pull a car close. All of it is a short walk from the halls: no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.

Continuing students check in for fall 2026 on Saturday, August 22 and Sunday, August 23. That weekend and the week after it are the busiest stretch of the year here, so list early if you're selling and watch closely if you're buying.
