College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. Every account is verified with a @marshall.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Thundering Herd — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

First-year students land in First Year North and First Year South, the co-ed traditional halls where every double has its own full bathroom. Upperclassmen spread across Twin Towers East and Twin Towers West, the community-bath high rises with learning centers on the ground floor, and Buskirk Hall, the smaller women's hall of about 190 residents. Honors students and older undergrads mostly end up in the suite-style Marshall Commons buildings — Gibson Hall, Haymaker Hall, Wellman Hall and Willis Hall — where four- and eight-person suites share a bathroom and a living room. Marshall runs a real two-year live-on rule: single freshmen and sophomores enrolled in 12 or more credit hours live in the residence halls and carry a meal plan until junior standing, unless they're granted a commuter, financial or medical release. So everything you need is already on campus. Marshall students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Before you buy, know what the room already has. Every hall issues a bed with a twin XL mattress, a desk, a chair, a dresser and closet space per student, so twin XL sheets are the only size worth buying. You don't need to shop for cooling either — Marshall states that all residence halls have air conditioning, and floor and window units are prohibited. The appliance rules are specific: refrigerators have to draw under 2.5 amps, microwaves have to stay under 700 watts, and it's one microwave per room, or one per suite in the Commons. Toasters, toaster ovens, hot plates, Instant Pots, electric skillets, George Foreman grills, halogen lamps, extension cords and multi-outlet plugs are all out. Furniture other than bunk beds can't be disassembled, so shelving and storage bins do the work instead.

When it's time to hand something off, stay where the crowds are. The Memorial Student Center and the Memorial Student Center Plaza make up the busiest square of campus, with the Marshall University Memorial Fountain right there. Drinko Library works for a quiet daytime swap, Old Main for anything on the academic end, and the Marshall Recreation Center if you're both headed to the gym anyway. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
