Where Ramblers buy and sell

Loyola requires all full-time first- and second-year students to live on campus, so two full classes are furnishing rooms every August. First-years are on the Lake Shore Campus in Campion, de Nobili, Mertz, Regis, San Francisco, or the Simpson Living-Learning Center. Upperclass students move into apartment-style halls named after other Jesuit schools — Bellarmine, Canisius, Fairfield, Fordham, Francis, Georgetown, Marquette, Santa Clara, Seattle, Spring Hill, St. Joseph's, and Xavier — or into Baumhart Hall at the Water Tower Campus on the Magnificent Mile. Ramblers post futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, seating, winter gear, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail. Juniors and seniors living in Rogers Park and Edgewater use it too. Same rule applies: verified students only, and the person on the other end is someone you'd pass on the way to class.

The junior-year move off campus

On-campus housing isn't guaranteed for juniors and seniors, and most move into apartments in Rogers Park and Edgewater — still a short walk from Lake Shore. That move changes what you need entirely: a couch, a kitchen table, cookware, none of which a residence hall room called for. It also means a steady supply of exactly those things coming from the class ahead every spring, plus the residence hall furniture they no longer need.

Meeting up across two campuses

The Damen Student Center is the heart of Lake Shore and houses the Halas Recreation Center, with Cudahy Library close by — that cluster works from almost any hall. If you're at Baumhart on the Water Tower Campus, the Terry Student Center is right below you. The LUC intercampus shuttle and the CTA Red Line connect the two, so meet at one end rather than somewhere in between. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone across Chicago off Craigslist.

Textbooks without the bookstore markup

Course materials for nursing, business, and the sciences run into the hundreds of dollars a semester, and the same editions circulate through campus year after year. Buying from the Rambler who took the class last term beats the bookstore buyback spread on both ends — the seller gets more than the buyback price, and the buyer pays less than retail.
