College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for University of Missouri-Kansas City in Kansas City, Missouri. Every account is verified with a @umkc.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Roos — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

UMKC's housing list is short and easy to learn. Oak Street Hall is the big one, with 559 residents in suite-style rooms that run from doubles in a four-person suite up to triples and singles with common space. Johnson Hall sits a few steps from the KC Streetcar stop and holds about 329 students in semi-suite configurations. Once you're past your first year, Hospital Hill Apartments and the UMKC Rockhill Apartments open up — real apartments with full kitchens, a private bathroom off each bedroom at Hospital Hill, and a washer and dryer in the unit. Four buildings, all walkable, which means a couch or a monitor changes hands without anybody renting a truck. Kansas City students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester, usually for a fraction of retail.

Check what your room already has before you buy anything. Oak Street and Johnson rooms come with a loftable twin XL bed, a sink, and a MicroFridge unit that combines a mini fridge, freezer and microwave — so bring Twin XL sheets and skip the appliance run entirely. Johnson adds a desk and wooden chair, a three-drawer dresser and a lockable cabinet; Oak Street gives you a four-drawer chest. The apartments are furnished on different terms: full-size beds, dressers, desks and chairs, and a sectional in the living area, so buy full sheets there, not twin. Lofting splits by building too. Oak Street beds loft with the supplied hardware only and have to come back down at checkout, Johnson beds raise without a separate kit, and lofting kits aren't permitted in either apartment complex. Any extra refrigerator is capped at 3.6 cubic feet, and toasters, air fryers, hot plates, crockpots and coffee makers are off the list in the residence halls — apartment residents can use UL-rated versions in the kitchen.

Trade somewhere public. The UMKC Student Union and the Atterbury Student Success Center are the two busiest handoff points on the Volker campus, and Miller Nichols Library, the Swinney Recreation Center and the walk outside Durwood Stadium all work just as well. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
