College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Every account is verified with a @jhu.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Blue Jays — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
Hopkins has a two-year residency requirement, so the Homewood campus turns over in a big way every August and every May. First-years settle into AMR II, AMR III A & B, Wolman Hall, and McCoy Hall, and rising second-years move up to Scott-Bates Commons, Bradford Apartments, Homewood Apartments, The Academy, or back into McCoy Hall for another year. That means two full classes packing, unpacking, and repacking within a few blocks of each other, and everything you need is already on campus. Hopkins students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.
Rooms come furnished with a Twin XL mattress and bed frame, a desk and desk chair, a dresser, a wardrobe, a mirror, and window blinds, and some buildings include a mini fridge, so bring Twin XL sheets rather than standard twin. Air conditioning is listed as a standard amenity across the residence halls, and the Bradford and Homewood apartments have individually controlled climate systems — personal window or portable AC units are prohibited and get confiscated. Beds are lofted by the Housing Office rather than by students, with requests taken during the first week of classes. Refrigerators may not exceed 5 cubic feet or 1.5 amps and microwaves are capped at 1,100 watts, which is exactly why a used, in-spec combo unit from a departing second-year beats guessing at a big-box store. Halogen lamps, space heaters, candles, and electric scooters are all on the do-not-pack list.
