College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi. Every account is verified with a @students.jsums.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Tigers — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

JSU's residential communities are organized by community. Florence Octavia Alexander Hall houses women in traditional and suite-style double rooms split between its East and West sides, and Transitional Hall adds suite-style doubles, premium corner rooms and the largest laundry facility on campus. Campbell College South is the women's upperclass hall, with 2-, 3- and 4-bedroom suites for students carrying 30 or more credit hours, and Campbell College North is the same arrangement for men. Men also live in John W. Dixon Hall, which is suite-style doubles, and Stewart Hall, traditional doubles with community bathrooms. The co-ed One University Place is apartment-style, with private bedrooms and full kitchens. First-year students aren't required to live on campus at JSU, but nearly everything you need is already here — Jackson State students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester, usually for a fraction of retail.

Rooms arrive furnished: a twin XL bed and mattress, dresser, desk, chair and closet space in the residence halls, plus a furnished living room with a couch and side chair at One University Place. Buy Twin XL sheets for the halls, but full or queen for One University Place, where the beds are full-size. Check the appliance rules before you buy anything secondhand — refrigerators have to be 3 cubic feet or smaller, microwaves 700 watts or less, and single-serve coffee makers like a Keurig are fine. Air fryers, Instant Pots, rice cookers, toasters, toaster ovens, crockpots and George Foreman grills are out, along with anything that has an exposed heating element. Lofting isn't a thing here: beds stay at standard height, and bed risers of any type, cinder blocks and homemade lofts are all prohibited, so skip the riser sets entirely. Window and portable air conditioners and space heaters are banned too, though fans are allowed, and every piece of university-issued furniture has to stay in the room.

When it's time to hand something off, pick somewhere busy and well-lit: the JSU Student Center, the H.T. Sampson Library, the Walter Payton Recreation & Wellness Center, Heritage Dining Hall, or Gibbs-Green Plaza. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
