College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for the University of Houston in Houston, Texas. Every account is verified with a @uh.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Cougars — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
Where Cougars buy and sell
UH doesn't require first-year students to live on campus, and only about 15% of students do — which makes a verified student marketplace more useful here, not less. Whether you're in Moody Towers, The Quad, Cougar Village 1 or 2, Cougar Place, Bayou Oaks, or the University Lofts, or commuting in from anywhere across Houston, everything you need is already inside the same campus community. Cougars post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail. Same rule applies whether you live on campus or drive in: verified students only, and the person on the other end is someone you'd pass on the way to class.
Meeting up on campus — and why that matters more here
At a mostly commuter campus, "meet somewhere safe" usually means driving across a huge city to a stranger's apartment. It doesn't have to. The Student Center, the MD Anderson Library, the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center, and Cougar Woods are all places you're already going between classes. Do the handoff there and you've added zero minutes to your day. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off Craigslist in a parking lot.
Textbooks without the bookstore markup
Course materials for engineering, business, and the sciences run into the hundreds of dollars a semester, and the same editions circulate through campus year after year. Buying from the Cougar who took the class last term beats the bookstore buyback spread on both ends — the seller gets more than the buyback price, and the buyer pays less than retail.
The weeks that matter most
Fall check-in runs through the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center, so move-in week concentrates a lot of people in one place at one time. August and May are when the marketplace is busiest — students clearing out furniture, fridges, and storage all at once while new residents need all of it. If you're selling, post before the rush. If you're buying, that's when the good stuff appears and disappears the same day.

Each campus is its own marketplace. You'll only see listings from people who verified with a UH email address, and they'll only see yours.
Does it cost anything?
No. Listing and browsing are free, and we don't take a cut — you handle payment directly with the other student, however you both prefer.
Where should I meet to hand something off?
Somewhere public and central. Student Center and MD Anderson Library are the easiest — busy, well-lit, and everyone knows where they are.
What if nobody's selling what I need?
Stick to busy, well-lit public spots. Popular UH handoff points are the Student Center, the MD Anderson Library, the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center, and Cougar Woods. If you commute, pick somewhere you are already parking rather than making a separate trip. Meet during daylight hours.
