College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. Every account is verified with a @pride.hofstra.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other members of the Pride — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Housing here splits across the Unispan. First-year students land in the suite-style houses of Netherlands North and Netherlands South or in Stuyvesant Hall, while the High Rise towers — Alliance Hall, Bill of Rights Hall, Constitution Hall, Estabrook Hall and Vander Poel Hall — hold singles, doubles and quads in communal-style corridors. Returning students tend to move into the two-story townhouses of Colonial Square East and Colonial Square West, or into the suites in Nassau Hall and Suffolk Hall. The residential living agreement is a one-year commitment, so whatever you buy in August has to carry you through May, and everything you need is already on campus. Hofstra students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes and gently used textbooks every semester, usually for a fraction of retail.

Rooms come furnished with a bed, dresser, wardrobe or closet, desk, chair and wastebasket for each student, and the mattresses are extra-long twin at 36 by 80 inches, so buy Twin XL sheets. The one quirk: Williamsburg house in Colonial Square takes queen-size sheets instead. Lofting is off the table entirely — lofts, bars, cinder blocks and any materials used to raise a bed are prohibited, and bed tents are banned too, which is why risers and under-bed storage are what actually move. Personal microwaves aren't permitted, but you can bring a refrigerator under 5 cubic feet, one per bedroom and two per suite, or rent a MicroFridge through the University's vendor. Climate control varies by building: Stuyvesant, Colonial Square, Nassau and Suffolk let residents set their own HVAC, while the Netherlands complex and the High Rises run on central utilities that follow the season, so fans sell fast in early fall.

Hand-offs are easy. Meet at the Mack Student Center, outside the Axinn Library, at the Hofstra University Bookstore, by the Mack Sports Complex before a game, or at the Unispan if you're crossing between North and South Campus: no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
