College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. Every account is verified with a @my.hamptonu.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Pirates — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Hampton is a residential campus, and most of the trading here happens hall to hall. First-year students land in Harkness Hall, James Hall and Suites, Kelsey Hall, Kennedy Hall, Twitchell Hall, Virginia-Cleveland Hall, Virginia Cleveland Suites, or McGrew Towers. Returning students select into women's buildings like Winona Hall, Stone Manor, White Hall, DuBois Hall, Holly Tree Inn, the Continuing Education Center, the Modulars, and the honors Multi Use Facility, or men's buildings including Holmes Hall, Wilder Hall, the Religious Studies Center, and Orchard Road Residence Hall. Moton Hall and Hampton Harbors Apartments are the co-ed options. Halls are assigned by gender, and the honors and premium buildings carry GPA and earned-credit minimums, so where you live can shift from one year to the next — which is exactly why everything you need is already on campus. Hampton students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester, usually for a fraction of retail.

Rooms come furnished with a bed and mattress, a chest of drawers, a desk and chair, a mirror, and closet or wardrobe space, plus internet and cable connections. Extra-long twin beds are standard in all residence halls, so buy Twin XL sheets and skip anything sold as a regular twin set. The halls run on central air conditioning and heating, and portable air conditioners are on the prohibited list. So are microwave ovens, toaster ovens, George Foreman-type grills, and hot plates, which is why the resale traffic here leans toward mini fridges, fans, storage, and desk setups rather than cooking gear. Freshmen and sophomores also may not register cars on campus, so bikes and secondhand furniture tend to change hands locally instead of getting hauled home.

When it's time to hand something off, keep it public and busy. The Student Center is the easiest meet, busy from morning to night. Harvey Library works for textbook handoffs between classes, and the Emancipation Oak, the Hampton University Museum, and the Hampton University Convocation Center are all easy to find and easy to describe to a buyer. Everything stays on Hampton's campus: no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
