College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for The George Washington University in Washington, DC. Every account is verified with a @gwu.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Revolutionaries — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

GW splits its housing across two campuses. First-years land either in Foggy Bottom — Thurston Hall, Madison Hall, Mitchell Hall, FSK Hall, Guthridge Hall — or up on the Mount Vernon Campus in Clark Hall, Cole Hall, Hensley Hall, Merriweather Hall, Somers Hall, and West Hall. Second-years move into 2109 F Street, District House, Fulbright Hall, International House, JBKO Hall, Lafayette Hall, Munson Hall, Potomac House, and Strong Hall, and third- through fifth-years take the apartment-style buildings: 1959 E Street, The Dakota, Philip S. Amsterdam Hall, Shenkman Hall, and South Hall. Students admitted with the Class of 2030 and after have to live on campus for three years, or six semesters; earlier classes owe two. That's a lot of moving inside a few city blocks, so everything you need is already here. GW students post rugs, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Rooms are furnished the same way nearly everywhere: a Twin XL bed and frame, a desk and desk chair, and two dressers for each resident. Traditional halls including Thurston, Potomac House, Hensley and West come with a University-supplied MicroFridge, while the apartment-style buildings such as District House, 1959 E Street and Amsterdam Hall have kitchens in the unit instead — which is why personal refrigerators and microwaves are prohibited unless GW supplied them. Bed frames in halls like Thurston and Somers are loftable or height-adjustable, so the trade here runs less toward loft kits and more toward bedding, shelving, and anything that buys back floor space. Before you buy, know that halogen lamps, candles and incense, space heaters, non-surge-protected extension cords, and the use of cooking appliances in rooms without kitchens are all banned, and Campus Living runs announced health and safety inspections each fall and spring.

When it's time to hand something off, meet where campus is already busy: the University Student Center, Gelman Library, Kogan Plaza, the Lerner Health and Wellness Center, Thurston Hall Dining, or Pelham Commons if you're both up on the Vern. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
