Buying & selling at Furman

Campus details for Furman students.

College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. Every account is verified with a @furman.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Paladins — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Furman has a four-year residency requirement, so campus is the marketplace. Most first-year students start in South Housing, the centrally located complex made up of Blackwell Hall, Geer Hall, Manly Hall, McGlothlin Hall, and Poteat Hall. Sophomores and some juniors move over to the Clark Murphy Housing Complex, where Chiles Hall and Gambrell Hall are community-style and Haynsworth Hall, Judson Hall, McBee Hall, and Townes Hall are suite-style. Juniors and seniors mostly land in the eleven buildings of North Village Apartments, and students in the Engaged Living program can apply to live in the Bell Tower Cabins on the Greenbelt. Because everybody stays on campus all four years, everything you need is already on campus. Furman students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Residence hall rooms arrive fully furnished with an XL-Twin bed, a desk and chair, a dresser, a bookcase, a nightstand, a closet, and blinds, and the halls have both air conditioning and heat. Housing also puts a microwave and mini fridge in the room, so the smart buys here are the things that make a furnished room livable: bedding for a 36" x 80" XL-Twin mattress, a rug, a fan, shelving, and storage that fits a 3' x 4'6" closet. North Village is a different shopping list — four-person apartments come with full kitchens, two bathrooms, living room furniture, and full-size beds, so full sheets, cookware, and kitchen odds and ends move fast every August.

Meeting up is easy on a campus this walkable. Trade outside Trone Student Center, at Daniel Dining Hall or the PalaDen Food Court between classes, in the lobby of the James B. Duke Library, or along Furman Mall and by the Bell Tower when the weather is good. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
