Residents sign a contract for the full academic year, which means everything you need is already on campus. Fresno State students post futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Know what's already in the room before you buy. Community rooms come with an 80" x 36" bed (so twin extra-long bedding, not standard twin), a desk and chair, a book carrel, a file cabinet, a storage cabinet, a dresser, and a closet — plus a combination minifridge and microwave unit, so there's no need to buy your own. Every room has air conditioning and heating with its own thermostat control. Housing prohibits candles, incense, plug-in air fresheners, space heaters, and cooking appliances like hot plates and toasters, along with hoverboards, 3D printers, and pets other than fish in a tank of five gallons or less. Skip those listings and stick to bedding, organizers, fans, and electronics.

Meet up somewhere public and busy. The Resnick Student Union and the Kennel Bookstore are the easiest midday spots, the Henry Madden Library lobby works when you're between classes, and the Student Recreation Center, the Residence Dining Hall, and the Peace Garden are all a short walk from the halls. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
