Where Rams buy and sell

Fordham houses students on two campuses. At Rose Hill in the Bronx, first-years are in Queen's Court, Loyola Hall, or Faber Hall, and upperclass students move into Martyrs' Court, Alumni Court South, Loschert, Finlay, O'Hare, Tierney, or apartments at Walsh, Campbell, Salice Conley, Arthur House, Terra Nova, or Hughes House. At Lincoln Center in Manhattan, first-years live in McKeon Hall and upperclass students in McMahon Hall, with Wilshire Plaza as another option. Rams post futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, seating, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail. Students living off campus around Belmont and Fordham Road use it too. Same rule applies: verified students only, and the person on the other end is someone you'd pass on the way to class.

Buying in New York City without leaving campus

This is the pitch at Fordham. Furnishing a room in New York usually means a subway trip to a stranger's apartment with a chair, or paying delivery fees that cost more than the item. Both Fordham campuses are compact and everyone's already walking through the same handful of buildings every day. Meet at one and the handoff takes five minutes with no MetroCard involved.

Room size decides what you need

Fordham's room selection runs by group size, and it changes what fits. Singles are in O'Hare, Loschert, Alumni Court South, and Finlay; doubles and triples in O'Hare and Finlay; apartments for four to seven in Walsh, Campbell, Salice-Conley, Hughes, Arthur, and Terra Nova. Moving from a traditional double into a six-person apartment means suddenly needing a couch, a kitchen table, and cookware — which the group graduating out of that same apartment is selling in May.

Meeting up on campus

Handoffs happen at landmarks everybody already knows. The McGinley Center, the Walsh Family Library, and the Rose Hill Gymnasium cover Rose Hill, and the Lowenstein Center covers Lincoln Center. If you're on different campuses, meet at one end rather than somewhere on the D train. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off Craigslist.

Textbooks without the bookstore markup

Course materials for business, the sciences, and communications run into the hundreds of dollars a semester, and the same editions circulate through campus year after year. Buying from the Ram who took the class last term beats the bookstore buyback spread on both ends — the seller gets more than the buyback price, and the buyer pays less than retail.
