Buying & selling at Florida International University

Campus details for Florida International students.

College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Florida International University in Miami, Florida. Every account is verified with a @fiu.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Panthers — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

FIU housing is concentrated on the Modesto A. Maidique Campus, which has eight halls. First-year Panthers usually land in Panther Hall or the suite-style Lakeview Hall, whose Lakeview North and Lakeview South buildings hold roughly 800 residents between them, while first-year Honors College students are placed in Honors College @ Parkview Hall — the building most people on campus still just call Parkview. Second-year and returning students move into Everglades Hall, Tamiami Hall, University Towers, and the University Apartments. FIU does not require first-year students to live on campus, so the marketplace here runs on students moving in, moving between halls, and moving off — and everything you need is already on campus. FIU students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester, usually for a fraction of retail.

Check the bed size before you buy sheets, because it genuinely varies by building at FIU: Panther, Everglades, and Lakeview North and South use Twin XL mattresses (Lakeview's measure 36" x 80" x 6"), Parkview, University Towers, and Tamiami have full-size beds (Parkview's measure 54" x 80" x 6"), and University Apartments have standard twins. Rooms come furnished — a bed, a desk with chair, a closet, and dressers — and housing states that all units are equipped with full-size refrigerators, which makes a compact fridge more of a convenience buy here than a necessity. Leave the bulky stuff at home: FIU prohibits weapons, large furniture, extra mattresses, candles, and anything with an open flame or a heating element, so a listing that doesn't clear those rules isn't worth the drive.

Meet up somewhere busy and public. The Graham Center (GC) is the easiest handoff point on campus, and the Steven and Dorothea Green Library, the Wellness and Recreation Center, the FIU Bookstore, and the plaza outside the Ocean Bank Convocation Center all work just as well between classes. Everything stays on campus, in daylight, with people around: no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.

Popular categories at FIU: textbooks and course materials · dorm and apartment furniture · mini fridges and microwaves · bikes and scooters · FIU apparel and game day gear · electronics and monitors · event tickets · lofting kits and bed risers · storage bins and organizers

Who can use College Marketplace at Florida International?

Only students with a verified @fiu.edu email address. Every listing you see was posted by another Florida International student, and your listings are only visible to the Florida International community.

Is it free to buy and sell at Florida International?

Yes. Buying, selling, and messaging are completely free. The only optional cost is a featured listing boost, which puts your item at the top of the Florida International feed for $2.99 for 7 days.

How do I pay the other student?

You arrange payment directly with each other — cash, Venmo, Zelle, whatever you both agree on. No money runs through the app, and there are no transaction fees.

Where should I meet to buy or sell on Florida International's campus?
