College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida. Every account is verified with a @eagle.fgcu.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Eagles — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
FGCU housing is built around three communities. First-year students land in South Village, the cluster everyone on campus just calls SoVi, where Eagle Hall, Osprey Hall, Palmetto Hall, Biscayne Hall, and Everglades Hall run the range from one-bedroom privates and studios to three-bedroom singles with a kitchenette and living room. Upperclass students move out to the apartment-style villages: North Lake Village, with four-person furnished apartments that include a full kitchen, a living room, and two bathrooms, and West Lake Village, a year-round community of three- and four-bedroom singles. Whichever building you land in, everything you need is already on campus. Florida Gulf Coast students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.
Bedding is the thing that trips people up here, because the mattress size changes by village. South Village beds are Twin XL (39" x 80"), West Lake Village has full-size beds, and North Lake Village is a mix of the two, so check your assignment before you buy sheets — and check the seller's building before you take someone else's off their hands. Rooms and apartments come furnished, which means the real secondhand market is in everything else. Housing caps refrigerators at 5 cubic feet and microwaves at 1,000 watts, which is why used mini fridges disappear so quickly in August. Personal air conditioners, halogen lamps, string lights, candles, incense, waterbeds, personal routers, and smart speakers like Alexa or Google Home are all on the do-not-bring list, and nails and double-sided tape are out for hanging anything, so command strips and free-standing storage are perennial sellers.
When it's time to hand something off, meet somewhere busy and central. The Cohen Student Union is the easiest pick, with the food court and bookstore right there. The Wilson G. Bradshaw Library works for a quick textbook swap between classes, SoVi Dining Hall is convenient if the buyer lives in South Village, and the University Recreation & Wellness Center and Student Services Plaza both stay busy through the day. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
