College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in Tallahassee, Florida. Every account is verified with a @famu.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Rattlers — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Most first-year students land in the traditional halls: Sampson Hall and Young Hall, the twin buildings near Coleman Library, along with Polkinghorne Village East and FAMU Towers North, which have historically leaned first-year. Upperclass Rattlers tend toward Polkinghorne Village West, FAMU Towers South, and Venom Landing, the 700-bed hall that is the newest addition to campus housing. Apartment-style living runs through Palmetto Street South Apartments, Palmetto Street Phase III Apartments, and Rattler Pointe, where upperclass and graduate residents each get their own bedroom and bathroom. FAMU has an on-campus residency requirement — first-time-in-college students, and students with fewer than 30 credit hours who graduated from a high school more than 35 miles from campus, are required to live in university housing — so everything you need is already on campus. FAMU students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester, usually for a fraction of retail.

Your rate covers a furnished room — bed, dresser, desk and chair — plus electricity, water, FAMUSecure internet, maintenance and custodial service. Refrigerators are provided in the apartments only, which is exactly why mini fridges move so quickly in the traditional halls and suites. Lofts are not permitted, since university beds already adjust in height, and cement blocks or bricks are banned outright; bed risers are allowed as long as they lift the bed no more than six inches. Cooking appliances drawing more than 700 watts can't be used in rooms, so toaster ovens, air fryers, electric grills, hot plates, space heaters and halogen lamps are out. Rooms are air conditioned. Traditional and suite-style residents buy a meal plan, apartment residents don't, which keeps kitchen gear a steady seller in Palmetto and Rattler Pointe.

Handing something off is simple when everyone walks the same campus. The Set, the Efferson Student Union, Coleman Library, and the Hansel Tookes, Sr. Student Recreation Center are busy and public all day, and Bragg Memorial Stadium is the obvious spot on a home game weekend — no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
