College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Every account is verified with a @duq.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Dukes — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
Life on the Bluff starts in close quarters. First-year Dukes land in St. Ann Hall, which is an exclusively first-year community, or in Assumption Hall, Des Places Hall (home to the Honors College) or one of the lettered wings of Duquesne Towers. Returning students move up to suite-style Vickroy Hall or into the apartment-style buildings along Forbes Avenue — Brottier Hall, McGinley Hall and St. Martin Hall. Because Duquesne requires full-time undergraduates with fewer than 60 credits to live on campus, almost everyone packs and repacks a room at least twice before they ever sign an off-campus lease. That churn is the whole point: everything you need is already on campus. Duquesne students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.
Rooms arrive further along than most people expect, so shop accordingly. Every resident gets a Twin XL mattress, three feet wide and six inches thick, on an adjustable frame that raises to roughly 32 inches of clearance underneath — which is exactly the gap under-bed bins and rolling drawers are made for. You also get a desk, a desk chair, two sets of two dresser drawers, and either a wardrobe or built-in closet storage. Towers, St. Ann, Assumption and Des Places list air conditioning and heat, and laundry in the residence halls is free. Skip the standard twin sheets, they will not fit, and buy the Twin XL bedding, storage and desk gear another Duke is already trying to move out of a very small room.
Meet up somewhere you already walk past every day. The Gormley Student Union is the easiest handoff on campus, and Gumberg Library, the Power Center, the Academic Walk and UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse all work just as well in daylight with people around. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
