College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Every account is verified with a @duke.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Blue Devils — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
Where Blue Devils buy and sell
Duke has a three-year residency requirement, so almost the whole undergraduate community lives on campus. All first-year students live on East Campus, across 13 residence halls in five neighborhoods — Alspaugh, Bassett, Brown, and Pegram on the main quad, East House, Giles, Blackwell, and Randolph, the bigger Gilbert-Addoms and Southgate, and the newer Bell Tower, Trinity, West House, and Wilson. Upperclass students move to West Campus quads: Craven, Crowell, Edens, Few, Keohane, Kilgo, Wannamaker, and Hollows, plus 300 Swift. Duke students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail. Same rule applies: verified students only, and the person on the other end is someone you'd pass on the way to class.
The East-to-West move is the whole game here
Every Duke student makes the same journey: a year on East Campus, then a move to a West Campus quad. That's an entire class relocating every spring, five minutes apart by bus but far enough that hauling a mini fridge is a real errand. It also means the person selling exactly what you need is almost always a year ahead of you and moving in the opposite direction. Post before the rush and it clears fast.
Meeting up across two campuses
Pick a landmark on whichever campus you share. On West, the Bryan Center, Perkins Library, the Brodhead Center, and Wilson Rec are all within a short walk of the quads. On East, Lilly Library and the Brodie Recreation Center are the natural spots. The C1 bus runs between them constantly if you have to cross. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off Craigslist.
Textbooks without the bookstore markup
Course materials for the sciences, engineering, economics, and pre-med tracks run into the hundreds of dollars a semester, and the same editions circulate through campus year after year. Buying from the Blue Devil who took the class last term beats the bookstore buyback spread on both ends — the seller gets more than the buyback price, and the buyer pays less than retail.

Is it free to buy and sell at Duke?
Yes. Buying, selling, and messaging are completely free. The only optional cost is a featured listing boost, which puts your item at the top of the Duke feed for $2.99 for 7 days.
How do I pay the other student?
You arrange payment directly with each other — cash, Venmo, Zelle, whatever you both agree on. No money runs through the app, and there are no transaction fees.
Where should I meet to buy or sell on Duke's campus?
Stick to busy, well-lit public spots. On West Campus the Bryan Center, Perkins Library, the Brodhead Center, and Wilson Rec are all easy handoff points.
