Where Blue Demons buy and sell
DePaul runs housing across two campuses. Most residence halls are on the 30-acre Lincoln Park campus — Corcoran, Munroe, Clifton-Fullerton, Belden-Racine, Centennial, Seton, University Hall, Sanctuary, McCabe, Sheffield Square, Courtside, and the Racine Apartments — while students who want high-rise living near the Loop campus are in the University Center. Blue Demons post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, fans, bikes, and gently used textbooks every quarter — usually for a fraction of retail. Plenty of DePaul students live off campus around Lincoln Park and Lakeview and commute by the Red and Brown lines; they use it too. Same rule applies: verified students only, and the person on the other end is someone you'd pass on the way to class.
Two things worth checking before you buy
Not every hall has air conditioning. Corcoran, for one, has air-conditioned community lounges on every floor but no AC in the rooms. A fan is a first-week purchase in buildings like that — and worth listing rather than tossing in June.
You probably don't need a loft kit. Corcoran's beds come with 60-inch adjustable bed ends that set anywhere from standard height to loft height without any extra hardware. Check your building before buying risers or a kit secondhand.
Meeting up across two campuses
DePaul is split between Lincoln Park and the Loop, connected by the CTA. Pick a landmark on whichever campus you share — the Lincoln Park Student Center, the John T. Richardson Library, and the Ray Meyer Fitness and Recreation Center cover Lincoln Park, and the DePaul Center covers the Loop. Meeting at one end beats splitting the difference somewhere on the Red Line. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone across Chicago off Craigslist.
Textbooks without the bookstore markup
Course materials for business, computing, and the sciences run into the hundreds of dollars a quarter, and the same editions circulate through campus year after year. Buying from the Blue Demon who took the class last quarter beats the bookstore buyback spread on both ends — the seller gets more than the buyback price, and the buyer pays less than retail.
