College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Delaware State University in Dover, Delaware. Every account is verified with a @students.desu.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Hornets — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
First-year students are required to live in the residence halls unless they're married or commuting from a parent or guardian's home, so most freshmen land in Medgar W. Evers Hall, Meta V. Jenkins Hall, or the suites in Warren-Franklin Hall, with honors students in W. Richard Wynder Tower. Upperclass Hornets spread out across Tubman-Laws Hall, the Living and Learning Commons, University Courtyard, and University Village, and the DSU Downtown campus adds Carpenter Hall, Gooding Hall, Malmberg Hall, Williams Hall, and Zimmerman Hall. Between the two campuses and the shuttle that connects them, everything you need is already on campus. Delaware State students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.
Rooms come furnished with a twin bed and mattress that measures 80 inches long, a desk and chair, and clothing storage that is either a closet and dresser or a wardrobe unit. That 80-inch mattress is why housing tells incoming students to buy extra-long twin sheets rather than standard twin, and why used mattress pads and comforters in the right size are worth grabbing secondhand. Every hall listed on the university's housing comparison matrix is air conditioned, and personal window air conditioners are prohibited. Refrigerators up to four cubic feet are allowed, but microwaves are on the do-not-bring list along with toaster ovens, toasters, hot plates, coffee pots, grills, and portable heaters, so the apartment units at University Courtyard and University Village with their full kitchens are the exception rather than the rule. Rooms are assigned double occupancy unless they belong to a Resident Assistant, and the halls do not stay open over breaks, which is why storage bins and flat-pack furniture move fastest right before winter and again in May.
When it is time to hand something off, stay somewhere public and busy. The MLK Jr. Student Center is the easiest meeting point on main campus, and the W.C. Jason Library, the Wellness & Recreation Center, the Village Cafe, and the Delaware State University Bookstore all work just as well. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
