College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Every account is verified with a @cornell.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other members of the Big Red — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Cornell has a two-year residential requirement, so the whole sophomore class is packing and unpacking right alongside the freshmen. First-years land on North Campus in Mary Donlon Hall, Clara Dickson Hall, Balch Hall, Court-Kay-Bauer Hall, Jameson Hall, Mews Hall, High Rise #5, Low Rise #6 and Low Rise #7, or in the newer halls — Hu Shih Hall, Barbara McClintock Hall and Ruth Bader Ginsburg Hall. Sophomores and upper-level students spread into Ganędagǫ: Hall, Toni Morrison Hall and the Townhouse Apartments on North Campus, the West Campus House System (Alice Cook House, Carl Becker House, Flora Rose House, Hans Bethe House and William Keeton House), and South Campus buildings like Cascadilla Hall, Schuyler House, Sheldon Court and 301 College Avenue. Program houses including Akwe:kon, Risley Residential College, Ujamaa Residential College, Ecology House, the Latino Living Center and Just About Music fill out the rest. With that much turnover every August and May, everything you need is already on campus. Cornell students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Rooms come furnished with an extra-long twin bed, a desk and desk chair, and a bureau or wardrobe, so Twin XL sheets are the one thing you can't improvise. Undergraduate residences are generally not air conditioned, and AC units of any kind are prohibited unless approved through Student Disability Services — which is why box fans move fast in late August. Homemade or rented lofts and cinder blocks aren't permitted either; lofting has to come from SCL Facilities. Minifridges are allowed within the amperage limit, but freestanding microwaves are banned everywhere except the Townhouse apartments, so a rented MicroFridge unit is the usual workaround.

When it's time to hand something off, pick somewhere busy and central. Willard Straight Hall Student Union and Ho Plaza sit at the middle of campus, Olin Library works between classes, and Robert Purcell Community Center or Appel Commons Community Center are the obvious picks if you both live on North. Noyes Community Recreation Center covers West and South Campus. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
