College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. Every account is verified with a @colostate.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Rams — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Most first-year students at CSU are required to live on campus, with only a few exceptions, which puts thousands of Rams within a few blocks of each other. The community-style halls — Durward Hall, Edwards Hall, Ingersoll Hall, Newsom Hall, and Westfall Hall — sit alongside the suite-style buildings at Braiden Hall, Corbett Hall, Parmelee Hall, and Summit Hall. Academic Village, made up of the Honors, Engineering, and Aspen halls, and Laurel Village, made up of Alpine and Piñon, add suite rooms with private bathrooms, while continuing undergraduates who move over to the Aggie Village Apartments tend to be the ones offloading an entire room's worth of furniture at once. The upshot is that everything you need is already on campus. Colorado State students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester, usually for a fraction of retail.

Every hall room already comes with a bed, a twin extra-long mattress (39 inches by 80 inches), a desk and chair, a dresser, and a wardrobe or closet, so what people actually shop for is everything else. Bedding has to be twin XL, which is why sheet sets and mattress toppers change hands constantly. Beds can be lofted, and you are responsible for lowering yours before checkout or housing charges a $50 fee, so lofting hardware and step stools move fast in May. Rooms in Academic Village and Laurel Village have in-room air conditioning. Housing recommends renting a MicroFridge instead of buying one, and the prohibited list is long: no toasters, toaster ovens, air fryers, rice cookers, Crock pots, pressure cookers, space heaters, hot plates, candles, incense, or e-mobility devices in the halls. Worth checking before you buy someone's secondhand air fryer.

When it's time to hand something off, meet somewhere busy and central. The Lory Student Center is the default, and the CSU Bookstore inside it works well for textbook swaps. Morgan Library, the Student Recreation Center, The Oval, and the Ram's Horn Dining Center in Academic Village are all easy walk-ups with people around. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
