College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Colgate University in Hamilton, New York. Every account is verified with a @colgate.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Raiders — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Housing here is built around four Residential Commons, and nearly everyone lives on campus: Residential Life guarantees housing to every undergraduate and commits to four years — eight semesters — of it, with only a limited number of rising seniors approved for the Private Off-Campus Housing Program. First-years and sophomores are placed in Andrews Hall, Burke Hall, East Hall, Gate House, and 100 Hamilton Street in Brown Commons; Curtis Hall and Drake Hall in Ciccone Commons; the Bryan Complex and 113 Broad Street in Hancock Commons; and Pinchin Hall, Stillman Hall, West Hall, and 104 Broad Street in Dart Colegrove Commons. Juniors and seniors move down the hill to the Broad Street houses — 80 Broad Street, 94 Broad Street, 100 Broad Street, 102 Broad Street, 110 Broad Street, and 118 Broad Street — or into Newell Apartments, Parker Apartments, University Court Apartments, and the Townhouses. With four years of moves between the hill and lower campus, Colgate students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

A few Colgate rules shape what's worth buying used. Beds take XL twin sheets, so a standard twin set is wasted money, and students are not permitted to raise, lower, or loft a University bed themselves — that's a work order to Facilities. Air conditioners are prohibited in student rooms unless installed through the accessibility accommodation process, which makes fans a perennial listing. Microwaves have to plug straight into a wall outlet rather than an extension cord, and oversized refrigerators that draw heavy current aren't allowed, so compact mini fridges and shared microfridge units are the norm. Anything with an open heat source — toasters, air fryers, hot plates — is banned outside designated kitchens.

When it's time to hand something off, stay somewhere busy and well lit. The O'Connor Campus Center is the natural default, and the lobby of Case-Geyer Library, the entrance to Frank Dining Hall, the doors of the Trudy Fitness Center, and the edge of Whitnall Field all work just as well between classes. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
