Buying & selling at Coastal Carolina

Campus details for Coastal Carolina students.

College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina. Every account is verified with a @coastal.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Chanticleers — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Coastal requires first- and second-year students to live in university housing, so a big chunk of campus moves in and out on the same weekend. New students land in Eaglin Hall, Ingle Hall, Chanticleer Hall, DeCenzo Hall, Singleton-Young Hall, or Tradition Hall, or in the suite-style buildings of The Woods and the apartment-style halls of The Gardens. Returning and transfer students head half a mile down the road to University Place, where Blue Ridge, Piedmont, Grand Strand, Low Country, and Sandhills sit next door to The Cove. CCU students post mini fridges, storage bins, desk lamps, rugs, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Rooms come furnished: a bed, desk, chair, and chest of drawers for every resident, plus built-in closet space, and all of the communities are air conditioned. Mattress size is the thing people get wrong. The new-student halls, The Woods, and The Gardens use extra-long twins at 36" x 80", while Blue Ridge, Piedmont, Low Country, Sandhills, and most of Grand Strand have full-size beds at 54" x 75" — so check which community a set of sheets came out of before you buy it. Beds in Eaglin and Ingle adjust for bunking and lofting on their own rungs. Personal refrigerators are capped at 4.6 cubic feet and must be UL approved, though full-size fridges already come with The Gardens, The Woods, The Cove, and University Place, which also supply microwaves; anywhere else, keep it under 1,000 watts. Worth knowing before you shop: upholstered furniture such as couches, futons, and bean bag chairs is prohibited, and so are halogen and lava lamps, LED light strips, air fryers and toaster ovens, and personal wireless routers.

When it's time to hand something off, pick somewhere busy and well lit. The Lib Jackson Student Union is the easy default, Kimbel Library works for textbook swaps between classes, the HTC Student Recreation and Convocation Center lobby suits anything bulky you're loading into a car, and Prince Lawn and Hicks Dining Hall sit right in the middle of everything. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
