College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. Every account is verified with a @citadel.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Bulldogs — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Housing here is not a lottery. Every member of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets lives on campus in the barracks for all four years, and you are assigned by company rather than by preference. First Battalion fills Murray Barracks; Second Battalion, along with the Regimental Band and Pipes, is in Padgett-Thomas Barracks; Third Battalion is in Law Barracks; Fourth Battalion is in Watts Barracks; and Fifth Battalion is in Stevens Barracks. Because the room and nearly everything allowed inside it are standardized, everything you need is already on campus, and cadets post the narrow set of things that are actually authorized. Laptops and monitors, oscillating fans, coffee makers, irons, Bluetooth speakers, bikes, civilian clothes for leave and gently used textbooks turn over every semester, usually for a fraction of retail.

Know the rules before you buy anything. Rooms come furnished with racks, desks, a half press (a four-drawer dresser) and a full press (wardrobe), and only Citadel-issued chairs are permitted. Beds take extra-long twin sheets — the packing list calls for four plain white, non-fitted ones plus a standard pillow and white pillowcases. Cadets are allowed one authorized appliance per half press, such as a small fan, coffee maker, iron or deodorizer; fans can be no larger than 10 by 13 inches, and box or floor fans on stands are prohibited. Speakers top out at 12 by 24 inches, and a television, one per room and no larger than 32 inches, is authorized only for the upperclass years the White Book names. Refrigerators and electrical cooking equipment are contraband — an electric cooler up to 40 quarts requires medical authorization from The Citadel Surgeon — so mini fridges and microwaves are not worth shopping for here. Uniforms, locks, a bathrobe and a shine kit are issued when you report.

Meeting up is easy inside the walls. Mark Clark Hall is the natural handoff, with the bookstore, the post office and a Starbucks under one roof, and Coward Hall, Daniel Library, Deas Hall, Summerall Chapel and the Holliday Alumni Center all work between formations and classes. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
