College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for The University of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois. Every account is verified with a @uchicago.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Maroons — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

UChicago housing runs on the House system, and all seven residential commons are in play here. First-years and returning students alike live in Burton-Judson Courts, Campus North Residential Commons, Max Palevsky Residential Commons, Renee Granville-Grossman Residential Commons, Snell-Hitchcock Hall, Woodlawn Residential Commons, and International House. Traditional students must live in College housing for at least their first six quarters, and transfer students for their first three, so there's a steady churn of people moving in, switching houses, and moving off campus. Rising third- and fourth-years can also select Vue53, University-leased studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments near campus. Whatever you need is already on campus: students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used course books every quarter, usually for a fraction of retail.

Rooms come furnished with a twin extra-long bed and mattress, a dresser, a desk and chair, and either a free-standing wardrobe or a built-in closet plus a bookcase or wall shelving — so twin XL sheets are the only bedding worth buying. Air conditioning is the thing to check before you shop: Campus North, Max Palevsky, Renee Granville-Grossman, and Woodlawn are air-conditioned, while Burton-Judson and Snell-Hitchcock are not, and International House has ceiling fans instead. Personal air conditioners and space heaters are banned outright, so fans move fast in early autumn. Refrigerators are capped at 4.0 cubic feet, stand-alone microwaves aren't allowed (only a combination fridge/freezer/microwave unit), and hot plates, toaster ovens, air fryers, instant pots, halogen lamps, and LED light strips all stay home. Lofting kits are prohibited too, though beds can be adjusted for roughly 36 inches of clearance underneath, which is why bed risers and under-bed bins get resold constantly.

Meet up somewhere you already walk past. The Reynolds Club and Ida Noyes Hall, the lobby of the Joseph Regenstein Library, Ratner Athletics Center, Bartlett Dining Commons, or anywhere along the Main Quadrangles all work: busy, central, and a two-minute detour from class.

Timing matters. New students move in on September 22, 2026 and returning students on September 25, and move-out runs May 29 through June 6, 2027 — those two windows are when listings pile up fastest.
