College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina. Every account is verified with a @cofc.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Cougars — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Housing here is threaded through the historic downtown peninsula rather than stacked on one quad. Berry Hall and the newly renovated Buist Rivers are first-year buildings, while Rutledge Rivers and Warren Place take first-year and returning students alike. George Street Apartments and 291 King Street are open to returning students only, and the College's Historic Houses on Bull, Glebe and Wentworth go to upperclass residents. The suite and apartment options fill in the rest: Craig Hall, Liberty Hall, McAlister Hall, McConnell Hall, Kelly House and 99 St. Philip Street. There's no campuswide live-on requirement, but housing is guaranteed for first-year students who apply by the May 1 deadline. Whatever building you land in, everything you need is already on campus. Charleston students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes and gently used textbooks every semester, usually for a fraction of retail.

Every room comes with a bed, a closet or wardrobe, a chest of drawers, a desk and a desk chair, so the shopping list is mostly the soft stuff. Beds are semi-lofted at a height set by the room's furniture and students may not raise or lower them, which makes risers and homemade lofts a non-purchase. Buy twin XL sheets — beds in Berry Hall, Buist Rivers and 291 King Street measure 36 by 85 inches — but check your layout first, since some rooms, Historic House bedrooms included, take full-size bedding. Air conditioning is standard, though Berry, McConnell and Rutledge run on College-controlled systems while Craig, Liberty, McAlister, Warren, Kelly, George Street and the Historic Houses have thermostats residents can adjust. Most spaces already include a MicroFridge or full kitchen; personal refrigerators are capped at 2.5 cubic feet per resident or one shared 4.6 cubic foot unit, microwaves at 0.7 cubic feet and 700 watts. Air fryers, hot plates, grills, space heaters, extension cords, LED strip lights, candles, hoverboards, e-bikes and electric scooters are all prohibited — worth knowing before you buy someone else's.

When it's time to hand something off, meet somewhere public and busy. Addlestone Library, the Cistern Yard, the George Street Fitness Center, Liberty St. Fresh Food Company and TD Arena are short walks from campus housing and busy all day. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
