Buying & selling at University of California, Irvine

Campus details for University of California, Irvine students.

College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for the University of California, Irvine in Irvine, California. Every account is verified with a @uci.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Anteaters — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

First-years land in one of the two residence hall communities in the campus core: Mesa Court, with its 29 classic halls and four mid-rise towers, or Middle Earth, with 24 classic hall communities and the Laurelin-Telperion Tower. Continuing students spread out to Arroyo Vista, the theme-house community of 42 houses on east campus, or to the furnished east-campus apartments — Vista del Campo, Vista del Campo Norte, Camino del Sol, Puerta del Sol, Plaza Verde and Plaza Verde II. Students who apply by the May 15 deadline and live on campus their entire first year are eligible for a second year of guaranteed housing, which means a lot of Anteaters are moving from a hall room to an apartment bedroom in the space of one summer. Everything you need for that move is already on campus. UCI students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every quarter — usually for a fraction of retail.

Hall and Arroyo Vista rooms come furnished, so the shopping list is mostly the small stuff. Beds take extra-long twin sheets (80 inches by 38 inches), not standard twin. None of the residence halls or Arroyo Vista houses have air conditioning, so fans move fast in fall and again during spring quarter. In-room refrigerators must be UL-approved and no larger than 4.3 cubic feet, and standalone microwaves aren't allowed — the only microwave permitted in a student room is the one built into a MicroFridge combination unit. Toasters, coffee pots and rice cookers are kitchen-area only, which is why Arroyo Vista and apartment residents end up buying most of the cookware secondhand.

Hand-offs stay simple when you meet somewhere busy and central: the UCI Student Center, Langson Library, the Anteater Recreation Center, Aldrich Park in the middle of Ring Road, or right outside a dining commons like The Anteatery or Brandywine Dining Commons. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
