Buying & selling at California Baptist

Campus details for California Baptist students.

College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for California Baptist University in Riverside, California. Every account is verified with a @calbaptist.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Lancers — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

First-year Lancers land in Simmons Hall, Smith Hall, Tower Hall, The Village, or The Cottages, while transfer and returning students move into The Colony, Magnolia Crossing, The Point, Lancer Arms, and University Place. CBU also requires single students under 21 — and anyone receiving more than $15,000 a year in institutional aid — to live on campus, so the residential population turns over every August and every May. That is a lot of furniture changing hands, and everything you need is already on campus. CBU students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Rooms arrive furnished. Every resident gets an extra-long twin bed, a desk, a chair, and a dresser or two, and Simmons and Smith rooms add an in-room sink and vanity area. Mattresses are twin XL at 36 by 80 inches, so standard twin sheets will not fit — buy the right size once and resell it when you graduate. Every unit has its own heating and cooling that residents control manually. Check the packing list before you shop, though: bed risers and loft kits are prohibited, mini fridges are capped at 3 cubic feet, and microwaves, air fryers, toasters, space heaters, and string lights are not allowed in the dorms. Beds in most buildings adjust between 6 and 30 inches of floor clearance, Simmons and Smith beds are fixed, and Residence Life will hand out bunking pins on request — but you supply your own ladder, safety rail, and mattress topper.

Meet up somewhere busy and central. The Alumni Dining Commons, the Annie Gabriel Library, the Recreation Center, Lancer Plaza, the Campus Store, and the CBU Events Center all work well — daylight, foot traffic, and a short walk from wherever you live. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.

Who can use College Marketplace at California Baptist?

Only students with a verified @calbaptist.edu email address. Every listing you see was posted by another California Baptist student, and your listings are only visible to the California Baptist community.

Is it free to buy and sell at California Baptist?

Yes. Buying, selling, and messaging are completely free. The only optional cost is a featured listing boost, which puts your item at the top of the California Baptist feed for $2.99 for 7 days.

How do I pay the other student?

You arrange payment directly with each other — cash, Venmo, Zelle, whatever you both agree on. No money runs through the app, and there are no transaction fees.

Where should I meet to buy or sell on California Baptist's campus?

Stick to busy, well-lit public spots — the student union, the main library, the rec center, and the dining halls are all easy meeting points between classes. Agree on a specific building before you head over, and meet during daylight hours.
