College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for California State University, Northridge in Northridge, California. Every account is verified with a @my.csun.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Matadors — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
CSUN keeps its undergraduate housing in one park-like community just off the main campus. The Suites are designed for freshmen and sophomores, while The Park Apartments are aimed at continuing and transfer students, who share a two-bedroom apartment among four people. The fifteen apartment buildings go by plant names rather than numbers: Chanterelle, Carrageen, Woodruff, Burdock, Southernwood, Pacific Willow, Torrey Pine, Bayberry, Piñon, Valley Oak, Lupin, Saguaro, Heather, Rose Crown and Bougainvillea. The suites go by number, apart from Hibiscus Hall, home of the mailroom. There's no live-on requirement, and with only about 3,500 bed spaces Student Housing runs a waitlist, so plenty of Matadors furnish apartments around Northridge instead. CSUN students post mini fridges, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester, usually for a fraction of retail.
A few housing rules are worth knowing before you buy. Rooms come furnished with a bed, chair, and desk space, and you must use the university-provided mattress — no personal mattresses. Beds can be raised, but only to a maximum of 36 inches. Air conditioning is standard, though the thermostat is locked between 68 and 74 degrees. Refrigerators come only in units with kitchens; otherwise you can bring a mini fridge up to 4.5 cubic feet and three feet tall. Microwaves aren't provided in any room, a perennial first-week purchase. Housing caps you at three appliances at once and bans hotplates, electric frying pans, halogen lamps, and space heaters. One catch: secondhand furniture isn't allowed in the residence halls as a bed bug precaution, so couches and dressers are an off-campus trade only, and posters go up with Command Strips, never nails.
When it's time to hand something off, stay somewhere busy and public. The University Student Union, the Oviatt Library steps, the Student Recreation Center entrance, and the Matador Bookstore Complex are all easy to find, and residents can meet at the Mercado inside the housing community. No shipping labels, no delivery fees.
Timing matters: returning residents move in Friday, August 21, 2026, new residents Saturday, August 22, and the housing agreement runs through May 15, 2027 — those weeks are when the marketplace moves fastest.
