Buying & selling at Butler University

Campus details for Butler students.

College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Every account is verified with a @butler.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Bulldogs — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Whether you're moving into Irvington House or Residential College (ResCo) as a first-year, upgrading to a Fairview House pod as a sophomore, or setting up an Apartment Village or South Campus apartment as an upperclassman, everything you need is already on campus. Butler students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, TVs, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Because Butler's 295-acre Fairview campus is compact and walkable, most handoffs take five minutes. Meet at Atherton Union, the Irwin Library lobby, or the Health and Recreation Complex between classes and you're done — no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.

Know the specs before you buy. Rooms come with an extra-long twin bed — 36 by 80 inches — so standard twin sheets will not fit; Fairview Hall singles are the exception, with extra-long full beds. A mini fridge is allowed if it is no more than three feet in any direction and draws no more than 2.5 amps. Microwaves are not permitted in rooms, and neither are hot plates or indoor grills, so skip those listings. Also prohibited: bed lofts, air conditioners, electric blankets, candles and incense, extension cords, weapons, nails and double-stick tape, and pets other than freshwater fish. Butler requires full-time undergraduates to live in University housing for six academic-year semesters.
