College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Every account is verified with a @brown.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Bears — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

First-years land in the Keeney and Pembroke corners of campus: Archibald-Bronson, Everett-Poland and Jameson-Mead, plus Andrews Hall, Metcalf, Miller Hall, Morriss Hall, Champlin, Emery, Woolley Hall and New Pembroke 1, 2, 3 and 4. Upper-division students spread into Caswell Hall, Grad Center A, B, C and D, Gregorian Quad A and B, Hegeman Hall, Hope College, Littlefield Hall, Minden Hall, Perkins Hall, Slater Hall and the Young Orchard 2, 4 and 10 apartments, or into program and theme buildings like Chen Family Hall, Danoff Hall, Sternlicht Commons, Barbour Hall & Apartments, 111 Brown Street, 219 Bowen St and 315 Thayer, and the Wriston Quadrangle houses — Buxton House, Chapin House, Diman House, Goddard House, Harkness House, King House, Machado House, Marcy House, Olney House, Sears House and West House. With a six-semester on-campus housing requirement, nearly everyone furnishes a room here three years running, and everything you need is already on campus. Brown students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.

Know what the room already gives you. Brown provides a bed frame and a twin extra-long mattress (36" x 80"), a bookcase, a bureau, a closet or wardrobe, a desk and desk chair, and a trash and recycling bin. Lamps are on you, which is why desk and floor lamps move fast in September. There are 11 inches of clearance under every bed, so measure before buying risers or under-bed bins, and note that some lofts aren't permitted for fire-safety reasons. The big change: beginning in 2026-27 the University no longer provides microfridge units, so students rent from a preferred vendor or bring their own unit that meets Brown's safety specifications — which makes secondhand mini fridges the most-wanted listing on the app. Extension cords get confiscated, so stick to surge protectors, and Brown's own what-to-bring list puts a fan near the top.

Meet somewhere busy and well-lit. The Stephen Robert '62 Campus Center, the Sharpe Refectory, John D. Rockefeller Jr. Library, the Nelson Fitness Center, Brown Bookstore and the Main Green are all easy handoffs between classes — no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
