College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. Every account is verified with a @bc.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Eagles — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Where Eagles buy and sell

Most BC students get three years of guaranteed housing, so the community turns over constantly. Whether you're a first-year on Upper Campus in Cheverus, Claver, Fenwick, Gonzaga, Kostka, Medeiros, Shaw, Welch, or Williams, on Newton Campus in Cushing, Duschesne, Hardey, Keyes, or Loyola, in Walsh, Vanderslice, Stayer, or 90 St. Thomas More as a sophomore or junior, or in senior apartments at Ignacio, Rubenstein, Gabelli, Voute, Reservoir, Thomas More, or the Mods, everything you need is already on campus. BC students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail. Same rule applies: verified students only, and the person on the other end is someone you'd pass on the way to class.

The Newton Campus problem — and why this helps

First-years split between Upper Campus and Newton Campus, which sits about a mile and a half from main campus with a shuttle running between them. Buying a mini fridge off Facebook Marketplace when you live on Newton means coordinating a stranger, a car, and a shuttle schedule. Buying it from another Eagle means meeting at a building you're both already going to. If you're on Newton and the seller is on main campus, agree on a landmark near the shuttle stop on either end rather than splitting the difference.

Meeting up on campus

Handoffs happen at landmarks everybody already knows. O'Neill Library, Corcoran Commons on Lower Campus, the Margot Connell Recreation Center, and Maloney Hall are all easy meeting points between classes. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off Craigslist.

Textbooks without the bookstore markup

Course materials for the Carroll School, nursing, and the sciences run into the hundreds of dollars a semester, and the same editions circulate through campus year after year. Buying from the Eagle who took the class last term beats the bookstore buyback spread on both ends — the seller gets more than the buyback price, and the buyer pays less than retail.

The weeks that matter most

Move-in in August and move-out in May are when the marketplace is busiest. BC's housing pattern adds a second rhythm: rising sophomores move from traditional first-year rooms into suites, and rising seniors move into apartments that need couches, kitchen tables, and everything else. That's a lot of furniture changing hands every spring. If you're selling, post before the rush.
