College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for the United States Military Academy at West Point in West Point, New York. Every account is verified with a @westpoint.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Black Knights — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

West Point is not a school where you shop around for housing. Every cadet lives in the barracks for all four years, free of charge, and the Corps is spread across nine buildings in and around Central Area: Scott Barracks, Pershing Barracks, Grant Barracks, Sherman Barracks, Ridgway Barracks (formerly called Lee Barracks), Bradley Barracks, MacArthur Barracks, Eisenhower Barracks, and Davis Barracks, which opened in 2017. The Cadet Barracks Upgrade Program, a 10-year effort begun in 2013 to renovate and modernize all eight of the older barracks, has moved through the buildings one at a time, so what a room can hold still varies from building to building — which is exactly why buying secondhand from someone already living there beats guessing off a website. Cadets post mini fridges, fans, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester, usually for a fraction of retail.

Rooms hold two to four cadets and come furnished with a twin-size bunk bed, a wall locker, and a desk for each resident, so the big furniture question is already answered. The barracks have upgraded heating and air conditioning, laundry rooms, study rooms with printers, group gathering spaces with TVs, and storage space for the belongings that don't fit in a room. That leaves the small stuff — bedding for a twin, a compact fridge, a second monitor, organizers that fit a wall locker — as the things worth picking up from another cadet instead of ordering new.

Meeting up is easy when the whole Corps moves through the same few buildings. Trade after a meal at Washington Hall, between classes at the Jefferson Hall Library and Learning Center, on your way into the Arvin Cadet Physical Development Center, or in the open, well-trafficked space at Eisenhower Hall, the Grant Hall Marketplace, or along The Plain. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
