Buying & selling at Appalachian State University
Campus details for App State students.
College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. Every account is verified with an @appstate.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Mountaineers — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
Roughly 6,000 students live in App State's 18 residence halls. Whether you're on the stadium side in Belk, Frank, Laurel Creek, New River, Newland, Raven Rocks, or Thunder Hill, over on East Campus in Cannon, Cone, Dogwood, Doughton, Elkstone, Summit, or White, or in Appalachian Heights, Mountaineer Hall, Mountain Laurel, or the Living Learning Center, everything you need is already on campus. App State students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.
Handoffs happen at landmarks everybody already knows. Plemmons Student Union, Sanford Mall, and the coffee shops inside the Union are all easy meeting points between classes — no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no driving out to meet someone off campus.
Know the specs before you buy. Beds take twin XL sheets. A small refrigerator is allowed at 5 cubic feet or less, and both refrigerators and microwaves must stay under 1,200 watts or 10 amps, one of each per room. Air conditioners, candles, hot plates, air fryers, pressure cookers, kegs, waterbeds, electronic cigarettes, extension cords, personal wireless routers and any loft the University did not provide are all prohibited, and pets are limited to fish in tanks of 10 gallons or less. All students classified by Admissions as freshmen are required to live in a residence hall unless University Housing grants an exemption.
