College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Alcorn State University in Lorman, Mississippi. Every account is verified with an @alcorn.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Braves — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
Alcorn's residential community runs from the traditional halls at the heart of the Lorman campus all the way down to Natchez. John Burrus Hall and Hiram Revels Hall are traditional double-room halls with community baths on each floor, open to freshmen and upperclassmen alike, and Albert Lott Hall and Robinson Hall fill out the classic side of campus. Female Honors Hall is suite-style with semi-private baths and a 3.0 GPA requirement, while the apartment-style Medgar Wiley Evers Heritage Village Complex A, Complex B, Complex C and Complex D add kitchenettes, furnished living areas and game rooms. Nursing and business students also have the co-residential Natchez Campus housing. Full-time students under 21 with fewer than 60 credit hours are required to live on campus unless they live within 40 miles of a parent or guardian, which means everything you need is already on campus. Alcorn State students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.
Rooms arrive furnished with two single beds, two desks, two desk chairs, two wardrobe closets, chests and mini blinds, so what you're really shopping for is everything else. The beds take extra-long twin sheets, so buy Twin XL and skip the standard sets. Refrigerators are capped at 6 cubic feet, and fridges and microwaves are only permitted in Burrus, Revels, Female Honors and the nursing dorm — Heritage Village has kitchenettes instead, and microwaves aren't allowed there. Toasters, hot plates, crock pots, fryers, toaster ovens, halogen lamps, space heaters, candles and extension cords all stay home. Heritage Village is the only complex with in-room wireless; elsewhere WiFi is lobby-only, which is why ethernet cables and routers move quickly. Posters go up with 3M strips only, and residence hall furniture has to stay in the room.
When it's time to hand something off, pick somewhere busy and well-lit: the James L. Bolden Campus Union, the J.D. Boyd Library, the Clinton J. Bristow, Jr. Dining Facility, the Davey L. Whitney HPER Complex, or the front steps of Oakland Memorial Chapel. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
