College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama. Every account is verified with a @myasu.alasu.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Hornets, not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

ASU houses roughly 2,261 students across thirteen residential facilities, and where you live shapes what you need. First-year students land in the traditional halls: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Hall and George N. Card Hall for men, C.J. Dunn Tower and Bessie E. Estell Hall for women. Upperclass Hornets move into Bessie Benson Hall, Jo Ann Robinson Hall, John W. Abercrombie Hall, Wilease S. Simpson Hall, and the co-ed New Facility I and New Facility II. Apartment-style living is available at McGinty Apartments, Peyton Finley, and Country Club Apartments. Housing is first come, first served with a $250 non-refundable deposit, and you have to be enrolled full time to keep your bed, so the scramble for a room starts early and the scramble for furnishings starts right after. Everything you need is already on campus. ASU students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester, usually for a fraction of retail.

Know the rules before you buy. Rooms come furnished with two beds, two desks, two chairs, two dressers, two closets, a cable jack, and window blinds, and the beds are twin extra-long, so standard twin sheets will not fit. Lofts are not permitted at ASU, which means no loft lumber and no DIY risers project. Buildings run on central heating and air controlled by the Physical Plant, and privately owned window AC units and space heaters are prohibited. Refrigerators cannot exceed 1.7 cubic feet and microwaves are capped at 700 watts, so check the specs on any appliance before you hand over cash.

Meeting up is easy when everyone is within a few blocks. Trade in the lobby of the John Garrick Hardy Student Center, outside the Levi Watkins Learning Center, near the Fred Shuttlesworth Dining Facility at mealtime, by the Dunn-Oliver Acadome, or at the University Bookstore on the first floor of Hardy when you're swapping textbooks. No shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
