Buying & selling at Akron
Campus details for Akron students.
College Marketplace is the student-only buy and sell app for The University of Akron in Akron, Ohio. Every account is verified with a @uakron.edu email address, so you're only ever trading with other Zips — not strangers from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
Where Zips buy and sell
Whether you're moving into Spicer Hall, settling into South Hall or Spanton Hall, living in the Honors Complex, or setting up an apartment at Exchange Street, everything you need is already on campus. Akron students post mini fridges, futons, storage bins, desk lamps, monitors, bikes, and gently used textbooks every semester — usually for a fraction of retail.
UA is also in the middle of a campus-wide residence hall renovation, so more students than usual are moving between buildings between semesters. Students living in Spanton for fall 2026 move to Bulger over winter break for spring 2027, which means a lot of furniture and dorm gear changing hands in December and January on top of the usual August and May rushes.
Meeting up on campus
Because UA's 218-acre campus sits in one walkable stretch of Akron, most handoffs take five minutes. Meet at the Jean Hower Taber Student Union, the Bierce Library lobby, the Student Recreation and Wellness Center, or Robertson Dining Hall between classes and you're done — no shipping labels, no delivery fees, no meeting someone off campus.
Textbooks without the bookstore markup
Course materials for engineering, polymer science, business, and nursing run into the hundreds of dollars a semester, and the same editions circulate through campus year after year. Buying from the Zip who took the class last term beats the bookstore buyback spread on both ends — the seller gets more than the buyback price, and the buyer pays less than retail.
The weeks that matter most
Fall classes begin Monday, August 24, 2026, and the spring semester wraps up with final exams May 3-9, 2027 and commencement May 7-8, 2027. Those two windows are when the marketplace is busiest — graduating seniors and students heading home are clearing out furniture, fridges, and storage all at once, and incoming students need all of it. If you're selling, post before the rush. If you're buying, that's when the good stuff appears and disappears the same day.
